From the week of July 12, 1998
Six Days, Seven Nights
Yes. I really liked it; Andre said it was "Okay" (he hates Anne Heche). There was trouble
with the projector at EastTown (I refuse to call it "Knoxville Center") that took away
some of the enjoyment. The screen kept darkening overall, with a shadow creeping up
from the bottom of the screen. But back to the movie... It's an adventure/romance formula similar to Romancing
the Stone and Crocodile Dundee (city woman encounters worldly adventurer,
learns to loosen up and appreciate a different lifestyle). I could have done without the
guy from Friends; he's just too TV (and still playing his same lame character).
The plot is unrealistic, but so what? Think of it as a Harlequin with better
actors.

Dr. Doolittle
Yes, for kids. Gameboy liked it, so did his friend Mighty Mite. The funny parts are really funny, but it
does have dull spots. Parents should be prepared for butt-sniffing jokes afterwards ("that's how
dogs shake hands").
Lethal Weapon IV
Yes. Single Guy calls it "the MUST SEE
movie of the summer". He found it the best of the series, with lots of action (only one
suspension of disbelief) and laugh-out-loud humor. The baby and relationship content gives
it extra points as a date movie (like it needs more with Mel Gibson!). He even found it
moving emotionally. Volvo Man, on the other hand, was less moved. He saw it as part of a
double bill at the Midtown Drive-in. It met his expectations for lots of action and humor.
He found it less reality based than the previous LW movies.
I will see this movie--I really like the series, and just about anything with
Mel Gibson (I did not see Braveheart).
Mask of Zorro Yes. I'm almost tempted to see it myself--what with "the
two Tony's", Hopkins and Banderas. The Single Guy says it's a good action flick and okay
for older kids (Gameboy is 12). No female nudity--just the implied stuff that's shown in
the previews. Some naked male butts. One gross scene (establishing how bad the bad guys
are). Not especially romantic, and not emotionally moving, but pretty true to the
expectations created by the previews.
Six Days, Seven Nights Yes. JR and other sources (all singles) say it's a
good romantic
comedy, "good date movie". See full review above.
Something about Mary
Maybe. Single Guy says "Yes, if you liked the previews". While not as gory as Kingpin, it
does dwell on handicapped humor, making it too uncomfortable to be a date movie. Also has
lots of voyeurism and adult humor. The best jokes are in the previews. Andre really wants
to see it. I don't.
