Betsy Relishs Movies
less picky than the pickle

Last review before the 1999 hiatus was the sneak premier of Galaxy Quest and it was a hoot! Even non-sf fans should be able to appreciate the humor. It has enough subtle touches that you could see it again and still get new laughs (good since it's now out on DVD). Great casting and the special effects are impressive without being distracting. Be sure and note that "crewman number 6" IS the same actor that plays the craziest convict in Green Mile (also the same guy that played "the kid" in Box of Moonlight). And if you haven't seen that one yet, you should!

Short Takes (films from 1998-1999)

Analyze This
Yes! Billy Crystal is a shrink who can't say no to DeNiro in a f***ing hilarious hit movie.

AntZ!
Maybe. Finally caught it on cable...it was okay in spite of the fact that Woody Allen does the main voice.

Apt Pupil
No. I can live without another Nazi movie. Did not see.

Armageddon
Yes. Think Road Runner and popcorn.

Austin Powers--The Spy who Shagged Me
Yes. The Blazing Saddles of the eighties. (too bad it's now the nineties). Has some great comic bits.

Being John Malkovich

Big Daddy
No. Adam Sandler.

The Big Hit
Yes, with caution (gore). Forrest Gump meets Pulp Fiction.

Blade
Maybe. Snipes, action good. Mixed reports on gore. Andre says fine-- Single Guy says it's too gross "unless you're dating a member of the Manson family". Secondhand review.

Maybe. Andre saw it because he thought it'd be too scarey for me (HA!). Ok thriller.

Enemy of the State
Yes. Will Smith has another hit. Good techno-thriller.

Entrapment
Yes. Sean Connery. Need I say more? Did not see.

Good Will Hunting
Yes! Meaningful, serious film.

Green Mile
Yes. Interesting mix of supernatural and gritty reality. But it is LOOOOONG. Not that you notice until it's over.

The Haunting
Maybe. Chilling special effects and Liam Neeson, but the B&W original with Julie Harris is better. Did not see.

The Horse Whisperer
Maybe. A "Mood" film. Lots of scenery shots.

Last Days of Disco
No! Boring dialogue. Secondhand review
