I had to meet a client for lunch and decided to try Chili's (on Kingston Pike)
since I hadn't been in quite a while. All I had remembered about the place was
their hamburgers, so I was pleasantly surprised at the diversity of their menu.
Apparently their Saturday lunch crowd comes late (or else the dinner crowd comes
really early) because it was only lightly populated at noon, but got packed by
about 2 p.m.
I ordered the margarita chicken (sans sauce) with black beans and rice and ice tea. The
chicken was delicious! Perfectly grilled with a light sweet taste. The beans
were appropriately spicy and the rice had bits of other vegetables mixed in.
I'd have preferred them to be served conventionally (a blob of rice and a blob
of beans) instead of the "artistic"
presentation of rice encircled by beans and topped with a bed of what looked like
fried carrot curls, but that's just me. Servings were generous.
The tea was weak, but they replaced
it with soda without any hassle.
The service was excellent, responsive without being intrusive.
My guest had a burger and salad. The staff noticed that she had eaten her salad
very slowly and offered to reheat her burger! The "endless nachos" I ordered
as appetizer were the best I've had--hot, crispy, and salty.
