Wannasees

Astronaut Farmer
Billy Bob Thornton in Field of Dreams meets Armageddon (or maybe Salvage I) -- looks interesting, even if the character names are hokey.

Bridge to Terabithia
CG looks really impressive and the characters look cool. Since it's from a Newberry Award winning novel, the story should be good too.

Dreamgirls
What can I say, I love musicals!

Night at the Museum
I used to hate Ben Stiller in movies, but he's grown on me and the effects look well done.

the next Harry Potter
whichever it is, we can't wait!

Short Takes

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Hey, it's magical, but not my favorite of the series. They skimped on some of the plot

March of the Penguins
This is the documentary one, not the animated dancing one. Surprisingly engrossing!

Passovers

Charlotte's Web
Why remake such a classic?

Saw xx or any of the other torture movies
Not at all fond of this trend in filmmaking.

The Producers
Such a disappointment! I LOVED the original with Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder. Nathan and Matthew are poor substitutes. Uma Thurman is not right for her role either and the whole thing gets off to a really slow start. I couldn't finish watching it.

Here it is: the "Astronaut Farmer" slogan contest

Online entry form

OK, here's the story: I got an email from someone at WB.com offering some movie memorabilia prizes in exchange for a contest promoting the movie "Astronaut Farmer". I like SF movies and I like Billy Bob Thornton's work, so I've agreed. I'm told prizes will be movie memorabilia provided by Warner Brothers. Email addresses on entries will NOT be disclosed to anyone. I will contact the winners by email to get shipping addresses for the prizes, and then Warner Brothers will mail out the prizes. I've not done one of these before, so I can't vouch for it in advance. In case they don't deliver, all I can provide is the transitory fame of having your winning slogan listed with your name (but NOT your email) on this web page.

About the Betsy Relishs Movies pages

Secondhand Reviews

I don't see all the movies playing in Knoxville (I do have a day job!), and I don't always see movies when they first play. So, I include "secondhand reviews", comments on current movies from trusted sources (friends and relatives).

Current real people reviewers:
Betsy Relish (50-something female computer geek with eclectic tastes--even likes musicals! The "I" in these pages);
Sugar Daddy (60-something male retiree--into nature documentaries, old westerns, and SF);
The Single Guy (still SINGLE, now living in Atlanta, still working call centers);

Former reviewers from 2004 archives:
JR (40-something SINGLE male mortgage officer living in Nashville, into rock music, sports, and country western dancing, provides the date reports);
The Single Guy (40-something SINGLE male living in Knoxville, call center, into self-help books and comedy);
MamaMia 40-something SINGLE female, into dancing, real estate, italian cooking;
Clara (retired SINGLE female surgical nurse, into dancing and white water rafting, likes mysteries, clever comedies, and disaster movies);
The Brit and his Honey (20-something high-tech, literate couple--he's into low comedy, she's into high drama);
Volvo Man (30-something male living in Maryville, artist, entrepreneur, occasional drummer).

Former reviewers included in archive reviews from 1998-1999:
Andre (40-something male in mental health, into philosophy, ecology, and deep meaning, provided foreign film report);
Gameboy (12-year-old male, into Nintendo and basketball);

Your opinions might be included in these if you send email about movies you have seen, telling why you did or did not like them.
