Quick Bytes

Bird's Eye View (Old City)
Maybe. We were there for the Iris Dement concert, but did try appetizers and coffee. We'll have to try it again when it's less crowded.

RE-views

Chili's
Yes. Excellent service, lots of menu choices (the margarita-grilled chicken is delicious!)

Buffet Briefs

Great American
Yes. BIG buffet and carving bar. A bit crowded and noisy, but good variety. Gameboy loves it. Andre hates it because he gets too full (but the mesquite-grilled steak is winning him over).

Friends (Seymour)
Maybe. Lovely, airy setting. Buffet is small compared to ones in Knoxville, but does have more unusual items (like chinese dishes). Friendly service.

Shoney's
Maybe. Limited in number of entrees. Sometimes has that preservative on their salads but good variety. Good corn muffins. Also has great breakfast buffet.

Are you on a special diet? Allergic to some foods? A Sally? ("can I have that on the side?") Have a kid who's unwilling to try anything different? ("have I had that before?")

The Picky Eater™ may have the answers you need. Instead of details about gourmet recipes, we'll tell how easy it is to "hold the pickle" and get special orders (a feature that has taken on even more importance since our reviewer got diagnosed with diabetes). Our coverage includes fast food and off-the-beaten-path venues in East Tennessee. Some of our favorite restaurants are favorites because of their entertainment value.

How many places do you know where the owner will sit at your table and do magic tricks? How many that serve fried green tomatoes and homemade banana pudding? How many where you can get a pizza with no sauce AND no cheese? Whatever it is, if it's out there, we'll find it (as we found all of those)!

The Yes, No, and Maybe in Quick Bytes indicate whether we like a place enough to go back.

The Picky Eater's Diners

Lizzie (adult female, allergic to condiments and sauces, loves fried foods and dairy products, hates greens, avoiding caffeine and sometimes sugar, recovering chocaholic);
Andre (adult male, caffeine fanatic, loves mushrooms and chinese food, emphatic about avoiding fat and calories, hates iceberg lettuce);
Gameboy ("the kid", addicted to sodas, not big on dairy products, likes pizza and mexican food).
